Firestopping

Helping maintain the fire separation within a building.

What is firestopping?

Firestopping is part of passive fire protection: measures built into a building to help limit the spread of fire and smoke. It seals openings and gaps in fire-resisting walls and floors, including places where pipes, cables and other services pass through.

Why is it needed?

Buildings use fire-resisting compartments to separate areas. An unsealed opening can interrupt that separation. A suitable firestopping system helps maintain the intended barrier at the opening, as part of the building’s wider fire strategy.

Advanced Protection.
A coordinated approach.

Advanced Protection is a trading name of the same company as Advanced Partitions. We coordinate firestopping with drylining and building services, agreeing the scope and specification for each project. The selected system must be suitable for the wall or floor, the opening and the services passing through it.

  • Sealing around specified service penetrations
  • Coordination of openings and the construction sequence
  • Quality checks and documented remedial actions
Discuss firestopping

The right detail
for each opening.

Firestopping can include penetration seals, suitable pipe collars and joint seals. Different situations need different tested details; a product or rating cannot be selected from appearance alone. Labels and installation records help identify completed work for future inspection and maintenance.
